Our Hiker basketball team fought a tough fight against a skilled Mt. Ogden team but came up short, losing 48-36. Shakira Nolasco, Melena Benson, and Dawnavin Frye were outstanding in the effort. We will continue to work hard and improve as the season continues. We are proud of our girls’ effort!

On Tuesday, the girls picked up a win against Utah Military Academy 40 to 10. All 15 girls were able to get some valuable minutes, and we were able to look at some different combinations of kids out there together. Malena Benson led Highland with 11 points, with Thalia Hinojosa adding 6 points and Genesis Chavez adding 4 points to help the team to the win. Our girls play their next game this Friday at Highmark at 3:30pm.
The girls were able to pick up a nice win last night at home against Mound Fort 23-18. Emma Buehler Parton led the Hikers in scoring with 8 points and also had 6 rebounds for the team. Malena Benson pulled down 12 rebounds in helping the team get the victory.
It was kind of an ugly and physical game. Mound Fort does a great job of taking you out of your sets. We didn’t run one play last night. Coach James has his girls pressing and trapping the whole game, so all we wanted to do was try to space them out, find the open player, and attack the basket. We played a pretty good first half, but came out slow in the third quarter. We need to find a way to change this. The girls were able to refocus and come back with a solid 4th quarter to secure the win. Win or lose, I am proud of the effort the girls are giving each day.
The B team was able to pick up a good win as well beating Mound Fort 8-6.
Wednesday night our girls basketball team was able to pick up a nice win against Syracuse 37-24. The Hikers got out to a nice start and were able to build up a 24-10 halftime lead. We played a little tired and slow in the second half, but managed to hold on for the win. Kyara Tinajero led the team with 15 points and Avery Beadles added 7 points. Emma Buehler Parton was a big part of the win. She played her heart out inside defensively, and as coaches we couldn’t be more pleased with the effort she gives us game after game.
The B team keeps getting better and better with each practice and game. They picked up a nice win 18-6.
The girls will take on Roy Junior High this coming Friday at Roy at 4:15pm in a scrimmage game.
Our girls basketball team picked up a win on the road the other day in their first game of the season. After getting off to a slow start and falling behind 9-2 to start the game, the Lady Hikers were able to come back and get a nice win away from home. Avery Beadles had 15 points and Neriah Brotherson had 7 points to lead the team.
The B team also picked up a nice win. Winning 10-6.
The girls will play their first home game this Monday against Highmark at 4:15pm.
