Our boys enjoyed another successful outing today, winning 11-1 against UMA. UMA’S LONE RUN CAME IN THE 1ST INNING on a deep line drive ball hit to left. Angelo Gil at pitch and error less defense shut them down the rest of the way. Isaac Woods made a pretty play snagging a hard hit ball down the first base line and forcing the runner out at 1st. Angelo went the distance at pitch throwing 77 pitches through 4 innings; 9 strikeouts, 4 walks, while allowing only 2 hits. Angelo also got 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a walk at the plate, while stealing 7 bases. Jordan Perea was stellar at catcher, gunning out a runner trying to steal 2nd while getting hit by the pitch twice and hitting a triple deep into right field.
I’m pleased to report that our Hiker baseball team remains undefeated 4-0. The team took on Highmark the 2nd place team in the standings and came out with a contested victory 3-1 as the game was called with Highland, the home team threatening to score again in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Highland baseball won 10-4 against Mound Fort today in a windy game marked with stellar pitching by Angelo Gil, who got the win on the mound. Trenton Harris closed out the last inning by striking out the side on 16 pitches. The play of the game was made in right field by Christian Chavez, who made a running catch with one out in the bottom of the second inning. The offensive player of the game was once again Jordan Perea, who had two hard hit balls and three RBIs. Jordan played solid at catcher, as did Ruben Ortiz at 3rd, Trenton Harris at Short, Braedan and RJ at second, and AJ Hernandez and Braedan sharing 3rd base duties. Isaac Woods, JJ, and E’Angelo were solid in the outfield as well.
Congratulations to our school baseball team. Eighth grader Ruben Ortiz got the win at pitch and 7th grader AJ Hernandez got the save in relief. RJ (Raul) Tafolla made the play of the game running at full speed on a long ball to right field athletically spinning around as the ball tailed towards the line and making a leaping one handed catch for the third out with the bases loaded. Jordan Perea hit the ball hard for a single and a double and 3 RBIs. We are 2-0 with the win.
Congratulations to the following students for making the baseball team this year at Highland:
Raul Tafolla Jr
